CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a life-enhancing therapy that can provide relief to any number of sensory, motor or neurological problems. CST is a light-touch therapy where the practitioner detects restrictions in the craniosacral system. This system consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and the spinal cord. It involves the bones of the skull, face, and mouth (the cranium), all the way down to the sacrum, or tailbone. Restriction in this system could cause any number of health conditions.
CST helps remove trauma that the body and mind have experienced. CST works on many levels helping clients heal throughout their being. CST helps remove stress from the body’s systems to allow its own innate wisdom return optimal health and wellness. CST can alleviate a wide range of health conditions including:
- migraines and headaches;
- TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome);
- eye difficulties;
- learning disabilities;
- chronic pain;
- stress and tension related problems;
- chronic fatigue;
- traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries;
- central nervous system disorders;
- emotional difficulties;
- post-traumatic stress disorder;
- infant and child health issues (colic, constipation, ear infections, asthma, etc.);
- and many other conditions.
A CST session generally lasts an hour for adults and 15 minutes to a half hour for infants and children. The session is usually conducted with clients lying on their backs with clothing on. The practitioner assesses the craniosacral rhythm and the body directs the practitioner to where there are restrictions that need to be addressed. The individual receiving CST reports a wide range of sensations and feelings experienced during a session. Overall, a sense of peace and well-being is a common outcome. CST can be used alone or with a combination of other therapeutic techniques. The result of this therapy is a central nervous system free from restriction and a body that is able to return to its optimal level wellness and vitality.
